PM Kisan Scheme: You must be familiar with the PM Kisan program if you are a farmer or have a farmer in your family. The ₹2,000 payment that comes in every four months is more than simply cash; it’s a sign that the government supports farmers. Millions of farmers grinned when the 21st instalment was credited to their accounts.

Everyone is now anticipating the 22nd instalment. In the meantime, many people have a query, particularly those farmers who work hard on other people’s land but do not own any land. Is this program exclusive to landowners, or may these farmers also get the ₹6,000 annually?

What is the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, and what is its real purpose?

The government introduced the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana to extend financial assistance to farmers. The cost of seeds, fertilisers, pesticides, and irrigation in farming activities needs to be met. The cost goes up every year. Small and marginal farmers are often burdened with these costs. The government extends financial assistance to farmers who are eligible under this yojana; the financial assistance amounts to ₹6,000 every year and gets transferred to the farmers’ accounts in three equal instalments. It ensures that the farmers are relieved or somehow motivated to achieve self-sufficiency.

Expectations regarding the 22nd instalment after the 21st instalment

Farmers started talking about the 22nd instalment as soon as they received the 21st. A lot of farmers want to know when the next payment is due and if there will be any new regulations this time. The government checks the information before each instalment to make sure the money gets to the correct person. The issue of farmers who do not own land comes up throughout this procedure, which also reviews the regulations pertaining to land ownership.

The reality of farmers who cultivate on others’ land

In India, there are a large number of farmers who don’t possess land. They either cultivate the land on rent or produce crops on others’ land through sharecropping. It is all theirs ,the hard work and the sweat involved. But, they don’t own the land. The question that they raise is quite pertinent. It is like this: if they’re also farmers, then will they be entitled to the benefits of the PM Kisan Scheme?

What do the rules say? Why is land ownership necessary?

Only farmers who have agricultural land registered in their name are eligible for incentives under the current PM Kisan scheme regulations. Land records are used by the government to assess eligibility. For this reason, this system does not apply to tenant farmers or those who grow land under lease. Because the land is not registered in their name, they do not receive the ₹6,000 aid despite working in the fields day and night.

Will this rule ever change?

The idea that landless farmers should be involved in this system in some capacity has been brought up multiple times. While some states have developed distinct programs for tenant farmers, PM Kisan, a central program, has not undergone any such modifications. The government contends that in the absence of land records, evaluating eligibility becomes challenging and may raise the possibility of fraudulent claims. However, this is addressed on a regular basis, and the regulations may be altered in the future.

What is necessary for land-owning farmers?

For those farmers who are landowners, it is important that their information is correct and updated. Sometimes, an error in Aadhaar, bank account details, or land records actually delays one installment. Farmers should ensure e-KYC is complete, the bank account is linked to Aadhaar, and land-related documents are correct to avoid any problem with the 22nd installment and further installments.

Hopes associated with the scheme and an unresolved question

Needless to say, millions of farmers have received relief through the PM Kisan scheme, as discussed above. However, at the same time, it has been observed that landless farmers are also left out of its scope. They are as dedicated to working as farmers possessing land are, as they also contribute as much as the latter do to the agricultural sector of India’s economy.

However, the answer to this question continues to remain a pending one in my opinion: will these farmers ever come to witness the direct benefits of such a wonderful scheme? Under the present scenario, a farmer will have to cultivate someone else’s agricultural land, but won’t have any agricultural land in his name; in such a case, he will hardly receive the promised sum of 6,000 rupees under the PM Kisan yojana’s scope, which, in a way, seems a tough reality, yet facts are facts!
